In honour of the 1975 sitcom ‘The Good Life’ we’re holding a home-grown vegetable competition at Thurlaston Garden Center, to encourage you to become the next Tom and Barbara by bringing in your own home-grown vegetables! This competition will be held in conjunction with our Arts and Craft fair and on each of the three days there will be a different category to be judged by anonymous votes from those attending the fair. Each entrant will receive two packets of vegetable seeds (for their own use, not for the competition) and the winner on each day will receive a £100 gift voucher to be used in our shop.

We would like you to display your veg on either a typical 10” Dinner Plate or alternatively in a box the size of a typical shoe box, whichever suits you best!

The categories are as follows:

23 rd August - Best Looking ‘Traditional’ Plate/Box of Vegetables (Potatoes, Carrots, Parsnips, Turnips Swedes, Artichokes, Celeriac, Cabbage, Kale, Brussels Sprouts, Onions, Peas, Runner Beans, Leeks, Cauliflower)

24 th August – Best Looking ‘Mediterranean’ Plate/Box of Vegetables (Tomatoes, Courgettes, Aubergines, Red/ Yellow/ Orange Bell Peppers, Onions, Artichokes, Olives, Fennel, Spinach, Chard)

25 th August- Best Plate/Box of ‘Wonky’ Vegetables (This can be any vegetables you have grown that have an interesting/ wonky shape and work well together on a plate)

In the spirit of fair play all produce must be home-grown and not brought from a supermarket! At the end of the day we want this to be a fun community competition and we encourage everyone who is able to take part and try your hand at create a great display of home-grown veg!
